PJCIS to review re-listing Islamic State East Asia as a terrorist organisation

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Intelligence and Security has commenced a review of the re-listing of Islamic State East Asia (ISEA) as a terrorist organisations under the Criminal Code Act 1995 (the Criminal Code).

The Australian Government previously listed ISEA as a terrorist organisation on 12 September 2017. ISEA is affiliated with Islamic State and follows an extreme interpretation of Islam. The organisation is comprised of a number of violent extremist factions who have pledged allegiance to Islamic State and merged under the ISEA banner.
